CLOSE YOUR EYES AND FORGET YOUR NAME...
AS YOU GO INSANE, GO INSANE.

Vincent felt each tooth in his jaw as they ground together, mouth clenched like a vice as the muscles strained in obvious frustration. His red eyes grew dimmer, as if whatever had previously illuminated them had been snuffed out. The Father bowed his head, letting his eyes become veiled as he surrendered. Sometimes, everything was too much. Vincent wanted to forget, wanted to run from this place. He wanted desperately for sweet release, not death, but for his mind to simply let go. But it would not. His face did not show his disappointment. - Bitter oblivion. - Instead, he relaxed, breath passing in a sigh as he forced himself to relax, the close call not forgotten, but done with now. Mentally, he disagreed silently with himself, head shaking slightly in dissent. Raising his head, he ignored the slight tremble, and furrowed his white brow. Vincent's face, currently decorated with worried lines, gasped. Vincent was alone. The slight frown in his mouth increased as he, - How much more before you're broken, Vincent? - to himself deprecatingly. - How do you know I'm not? - This brought a snort to voice, and he shuddered, clearing all internal arguments for the moment. They were there in the back of his mind, claws outstretched towards his consciousness. He would battle them off for now, but the seeds of doubt were planted indeed. Turning now, Vincent moved for the first time in ages. It was dusky in the old basements of Rotting, but they were stable, and a labyrinth lie beneath the old church. The Father had discovered this years ago, as a child, seeking relief from the world. From Him. Ironically, as most things turned out to be, it was not his sanctuary anymore. Or perhaps it was? Vincent came here for Him, so it was an odd mixture of both. Vincent feared and loved Him. Contradictory, most would assume. For the Father? Not at all - one must fear to love properly. And so he did. Red eyes peered out from where he was stationed, the soft flicker of a candle nearby gave soft shadows to the room. There were no windows, only one door, which Vincent figured could only be opened by himself. It had taken him a long time to decode its secret, but he had. A solitary stone slab lay with rusting metal pieces in the center of the room. He leaned subconsciously away from it, and padded to the door. The candle, ever-lit, flickered against something shiny in the dusk. "Veritas in lucis." Was muttered, softly as half a grin stole across his face for a fleeting moment, harsh light being cast malevolently upon it. For the light did reveal the truth, and the truth was written in blood. The stone slab was covered with it, some fresh, and the rest was disgustingly faded. It splashed playfully across the walls and floor, telling tales of old times. Vincent stared at it, and to the rest of the empty room. There were no bodies, there were no wounds. But there was blood. He demanded it. With that, Vincent spared the room one last glimpse, before heading out and relocking the door, mind whirling with nothing resembling true thought. However, as he reached the brighter innards of Rotting, where others might be, he reflected upon how false the light of the sun shone compared to His marvelous brilliance. |
