The area was far from pretty. All clouds would burn away and you were just left with the raw power of the sun to bake anything below. But the useful features of this small pocket in the vast desert was more than enough to forgive its looks. A water pool, one of the rare gifts this desert had given up. It wasn't clear but it was clean enough in its own rights. Tshor could stand it only cause it was still and he'd needed it when he was out this far. The pool was far from the only aspect that made this place helpful. A dead tree with entangled roots among its stone perch gave little shade, but for some animals, relief from the burning sand and stone if they didn't take to the water. Tshor was more thankful for the stones, not being able to climb in the least and not trusting the water completely. One stone leaning firmly on another to make an awkward triangle and give a bit of shade for those under it. Giving a cool patch for most of the day.
Night was always preferred out here for Tshor, the cold nights could hardly nip him bad other than his scars. His dull brown fur was courser than most due to his race. He was bigger too. Both of these qualities were troublesome during the day, thus he slept most of it away as best he could. Though it was more to his liking to stay guard wherever he was, only napping in short bursts.
Currently the scarred up wolf was lounging inside his little fortress of stone. The cool bottoms radiating their chill through his fur the best they could as he panted into the dull wind that was coming over the sand. The sun was lowering steadily and would soon manage its way into his shelter before setting. He'd seen it many times and it had lost its brilliance to him, the long tendriled shadows had made him more wary with age and knowledge.
He blinked as the first bit of light pierced through the rough opening. One thing he both liked and hated about the rock fort was its double ends. Easy escape but hard to watch both ends. He though like he often did while scooting back to buy him more shade time. His Orange eyes opening, at least the left one did as far as the scarred skin would allow it. Panting slightly at the less cool sand behind him started to warm him up. He blinked and checked behind him before turning his eyes to the water pool, thinking of heading northwards to try and find himself something to eat after the sun sets. Bout and hour, give or take. He thought, trying the be patient.

What a hot day it was! The heat rose in waves, twisting and contorting everything behind it's clear curtain. The sky was clear and blue, with the hot sun beating down on the cracked and broken earth with a fiery ferocity. But now the sun was picking it's way toward the horizon, with shadows emerging from their hiding places and beginning to crawl along the ground, eager to swallow the land into a night. Sid had been running from shadow to shadow all day, tiptoe-ing on the skin of the earth, which was cracked and peeling from a feverish day. Sidoria had made the grave mistake of stranding herself within the confines of the Desolate, traipsing in during the previous night and falling asleep in an alcove dug into a cliff by ancient water or some freak wind. Sid did not spend much time pondering the origin of the shelter, she simply used it. She'd woken up in the late afternoon, sleeping in as per usual, suffering from a choking heat and parched mouth. Luckily, she'd found a watering hole nearby. One sure she'd been inflated with water enough, she began to run about in search of a way out.
By now, only some time before the sunset, Sid had backtracked, unknowingly, back to that same pool of water. Overcome by a sense of deja vu, she walked on tender, burning paws toward the shelter, leaping into the shadow cast by the stone tent as if it were a refreshing pool of water. She felt the burning in her paws begin to cease, and her tongue was lolling, but no drool was to be found, as she had exhausted her water supply long ago. It was then that she noticed the other wolf in the shelter, whose fur was matted in scars. She blinked at him with icy blue eyes and gave a reluctant grin. "Hello there, hope I'm not intruding," she sang, her voice light and airy, however raspy from the lack of water. "If you would be so kind as to excuse me, I'm off to quench this thirst!" she declared, as if the Thirst she mentioned was a juggernaut of a foe that she was off to war with. It was not entirely inaccurate, but it was a battle easily won. She bounded towards the pool and thrust her umber maw into the pool, sucking in the water greedily. Aquamarine eyes slid shut in euphoric bliss. Once she had decided that she had gulped down enough water (and mud, for that matter), she lifted her head and drew a deep breath, hungry lungs and parched tongue satiated. She turned and padded back over to the wolf, maw dripping with clear strings of water, darkening the hefty portion her her face. Tongue slid across her chops, net wanting to let the drink go to waste.
"Excuse me," she murmured in a soft voice, settling comfortably next to the canine and resting her head on crossed paws. She exhaled sharply, pink nose flaring as the air whooshed past, a sigh of contentment, of ease. All the running was tiring, and her poor aching paws and overheated coat were quite bothersome. She wouldn't mind just a bit of rest here... Eyelids fluttered, determined to stay awake.

He'd been content with just waiting for the sun to set from his dark hole, scratching away some of the dried sad that had joined his fur after his last drink. Once dark set in he'd set off and get rid of more grains that started to itch. A deep yawn and when his eyes opened again he felt the muffled thump of another. Jerking he looked towards her, a spasm in his muzzle showing his displeasure of the surprise but kept his mouth shut. He wasn't one to chase off a female that looked like she'd taken a beating from the sun.
He watched her with a slight tilt to his head as she guzzled down the water right away, grimacing at the thought of all the muck that would get into her system. He'd usually wade in and wait a moment to let everything settle the best it could before taking a draft. He looked her over, trying to figure out her situation from only looking at her. Lost maybe? To many found their way here if they were lucky or knew of it. In itself it was rare to have even two travelers there at the same time. Great, this was where he went to get away from being around others and now he was stuck with someone he didn't know. It was his surprise that she came into the shelter and lay beside him. Again his muscle twitched in a soundless growl. Shifting slightly to lean against the rock with his bad side he eyed her. Trusting was what she seemed, not knowing him and still risking the shades relief. He snorted slightly and got up, trying not to jostle her as he moved into the fading light.
"Where you from kid?" He asked, sitting before her, his back starting to feel the dying rays heat of his back. This way he cast more of a shadow in her direction. He tilted his head again, watching her closely. Out of all places to sit it was hot, but had an advantage to it. Sun behind him he'd have the upper hand. She was a female and smaller than himself but even the small can cause damage. Shifting his balance he brought up his back leg and started to scratch off some more of the sand, Closing his eyes slightly but kept them on her. "You can call me Tshor, and I'm assuming you've got a name..."

"Of course I manage to get myself lost in a desert. Why not? Just going by myself, getting the hell away from my bastard pack, and I manage to get my ass lost here, of all places. Makes sense." The brown and black wolf was indeed speaking to herself. Not much else to do in the middle of the desert. She was already well on her way to dying of thirst, and that was the only other thing she could think of doing in this place, anyway.
That's when she noticed her paw prints in the sand in front of her. "BLOODY HELL."
|
[/b][/i] She was going around in circles. Lovely. Always what she wanted to do in a goddamn desert. She rolled her pupiless eyes, though you wouldn't be able to tell because they're, ya know, pupiless. Then she strolled to the left, deciding to be a renegade like that. 'Hell, if I'm going to die, I might as well die to the left.'[/i] Yeah, she was a very bitter wolf.
It was only a few more hours later (and Novei really didn't like the whole 'hours' part of that sentence) when she found what seemed to be an oasis. Sure, there were others already there and she was probably being extremely disrespectful by just running up to them, but, hey, who cares right now. She didn't even bother to glance at her company before dunking her head straight into the water. She almost drowned herself and she probably looked like quite the fool, but that whole 'on the verge of dying' thing makes you oblivious to such trivialities.
Only after she had gotten her fill did she realize that she was also hungry. But that would have to wait. There wasn't much to eat here besides the other wolves, and she was sure nobody smiled at cannibalism. Instead of tearing the two creatures limb from limb and chewing their bones, she decided to instead lay down and enjoy the heartlessness of the water. __________________________________________

The male rose, drawing a curious stare from the little brown wolfess. He settled in front of her once again the sun to his back. She titled her head at him, wondering why he got up. Did she smell? Rosy nose twitched, pressed against her arm and sucking it the smell. She smelled of dust and the besert, perhaps a bit of wet dog, but it was not particularly overpowering. Perhaps he had a strong nose. She examined his scars. Perhaps she had been touching the scars, scraping at them with stiff fur? She questioned the origin of the scars. Perhaps he was a fighter, or perhaps they were not scars from claws, but great falls or stumbles. Perhaps this male was simply unlucky.
"Where you from kid?" asked the male, hind leg brought up to scratch behind his ear. He continued to say, "You can call me Tshor, and I'm assuming you've got a name..." The ess mulled over the words for a few seconds, turning them over in her head. Tshor. Sid grinned at this 'Tshor', a toothy grin, and then lifted her head to speak. "I'm Sid, and I recently became a Nihil." She nodded enthusiastically, splattering a few drops of water and mud. She didn't seem to notice. She rose to a sitting position, tail thumping happily against the ground and stirring up some dust. Behind her, a little lizard scuttled up the tree and retreated into a breach of the hide of the tree. Her attention snapped quickly to the sound, mouth snapped shut, staring at the trunk with a tilted head. She waited, silent, for a few moments, and then, just like that, she returned her focus to the male. Her tongue lolled again, a happy expression upon her face.
And then another creature appeared, much to Sid's delight. It dunked it's head in the water just as she had, and she examined the wolf's coat. It reminded her of someone... Her nose scrunched and eyes squinted as she thought, peering curiously at the ess. As soon as the wolfess' head surfaced, as soon as Sid saw the blank yellow eyes, realization hit her like a bullet. She leapt to her paws with glee, squealing, "Novei! Is that you!?" She raced to her little sister's side, tail high and wagging and a huge grin on her face. What were the chances of meeting her sister here? Sid loved her sister, just as she loved everyone, even this new face, Tshor. Of course, Sid wasn't expecting a big reunion. Novei had always been a little weird.

He seemed to relax a touch more at the fact she was Nihil. He watched her for a moment, she was like a full grown pup, she'd tire herself out fast enough even with sun setting. Wasn't to smart to spend so much energy out here if possible. He opened his mouth to ask her something as he watched her stare up at the tree. The sound behind him stole his attention though before the words came.
His head followed his ears at a different speed, and their movement was soon followed as he took to his feet. The pattering of feet fast approaching on the sand. His fur stood up on end slightly as the wolf that neared plunged for the water. His lip pulling back in a grimace as she put her whole head under. In his mind it was so unsafe and over the top. Quickly composing his face once more as the newcomer removed herself and lay down. His muzzle twitched as Sid suddenly bolted, making him tense slightly as she ran to the other, greeting it with that pup-like enthusiasm. He snorted slightly and moved back into the vacant opening of the stones to lay back down and watch. Blinking slightly at the light that had now reached the horizon.
"You both lost?" He asked loudly after a moment of watching them. Squinting at them slightly.

"Novei! Is that you!?"[/s][/i] It only took a quick glance from Novei's drenched face to realize that she was in Hell. Her dearest sister was bounding up to her, wagging tail and pressed-back ears included. -Fuckfuckfuckfuck why is this spawn of Satan hereeeee...- She inwardly groaned as she stared up into the sky. This wasn't good. Not good at all. She wanted to remain anonymous, dammit!
"Hello, sister dearest," She turned her face to look at the wolfess and was sure to draw out the 'dearest', knowing her sister probably wouldn't detect the sarcasm. She hoped the chocolate wolf would notice the irony in her voice, just so she could see the look on her face, "Fancy meeting you here. In the middle of this wasteland. It's just so wonderful to find long-lost family in the middle of Hell of Earth." Her creepily chipper tone was unnerving, even to her own ears. She sighed, knowing she was over-doing it. Sidoria was not her parents... though she did in fact spawn from them. And actually liked them.
"You both lost?" [/i][/s] That's when the wolfess decided to turn her attention to the other canine. He was completely covered in scars... poor thing. It must have had a hard life. "Lost? Nah... I just love walking in the desert. Favorite thing to do, you know." Her closed her eyes, tilted her head, and gave off the happiest smile she could concoct.
Later on, she would blame her near-death experience on her strange and less-than-desirable behavior that day. __________________________________________

Novei seemed shocked. She hesitated to turn towards her older sister, who waited with a radiant grin and a wagging tail.
"Hello, sister dearest. Fancy meeting you here. In the middle of this wasteland. It's just so wonderful to find long-lost family in the middle of Hell on Earth." "It has been a long time, hasn't it?" she asked, eyes sweeping over the dark wolf before her. She nodded and then added vehemently, "Why, last time I saw you, you were barely big enough to catch a wee little butterfly!" She lifted a dainty paw and shoved her sister playfully. Oh what a glorious day this was! She met a new friend (though she was hardly sure he would consider her a friend just yet), and now there was this reunion with her sister! She felt like... Why, she felt like singing! She had half a mind to burst out into a joyous song! Of course, Novei didn't like singing. Or any joy at all, for that matter.
"You both lost?" asked Tshor. Sid turned to him, tail still wagging steadily. Of course, Novei responded first. "Oh, Tshor! I forgot to introduce you to my sister!" She leaped over to Tshor and nudged him. "This is my cute little sister, Novei. Novei, this is my new friend Tshor!" She leaned to one side and whispered in Tshor's ear, "Novei's a little weird. Shhh."

His muzzle twitched at Novei's words and let out a tiny snort but when Sid came towards him once more his ears went back and eyed her as he felt her nudge. Its touching me... He thought as he leaned away a bit. Ear twitching as the female whispered into his ear. Looking her sister over taking what she'd said into account. It was just then the sun finally went below the horizon.
He got to his feet and yawned stretching before moving away from Sid. "Nice to meet you Novei." He looked over to Sid once more and twitched his ears. "Assuming you like the desert well enough I guess you'll stay behind rather than let me lead you back to the Dead Canyon" He said shrugging as he moved to the water. Dropping his muzzle into the depths to take a last drink before his journey north for food. He didn't take his eyes off the girls,
Straightening he licked his chops and bowed his head slightly to the two females and turned to leave, only his ears keeping in their direction. "Good luck." He called back in an amused voice.

[/color] o v e i__________________________________________ Her sister was... darling today. "Yeah, sister. It surely has been a while." She said while trying to keep a straight face. Then... then it pushed her. It put it's greasy paws on her beautiful coat...! Novei was torn between dunking herself straight into the oasis and running far, far away from her lovely sister. Fortunately, Tshor spoke before she had the chance to decide.
"Nice to meet you Novei. Assuming you like the desert well enough I guess you'll stay behind rather than let me lead you back to the Dead Canyon."[/i][/s]
Novei grumbled, torn between her need for safety and her pride. 'Blasted wolf! He's so lucky I have to live...'[/i] She growled wordlessly under her breath as she followed the cocky scarred male. She just hoped he did actually know where he was going. "All right, you caught me. I'll follow. But while I do, can you tell me about this land? Are there packs of wolves here?" She tilted her head as she spoke, a common quirk she had. She really had no idea where she was; she only knew it was far away from her home pack. 'Maybe not far enough,' she thought while glancing at her sister. "Oh yes, and it's oh-so lovely to meet you, as well." She rolled her eyes, again going unnoticed by her lack of pupils. She didn't particularly like her abnormality.
"And why exactly are you in the middle of a desert, anyway? Mr. Wandering Nameless Guy?" Novei huffed a bit. She didn't like to be on the bad end when meeting someone, and she considered herself in that bad end right now. She didn't even know his name, for God's sake!
